All about Laxmi Singh, First-ever woman police commissioner in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh now has its first female police commissioner with the selection of IPS Officer Laxmi Singh as the next Noida police chief. From Vikas Dubey’s trip to Unnao, she is identified as having handled several noteworthy instances.

As the first woman police officer to assume a post in a Police Department in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Laxmi Singh of the (IPS) Indian Police Service was selected by the state government as the new leader in charge of the Noida Police. Alok Singh was replaced by the officer from the 2000 batch, who took over on November 30 in Gautam Buddh Nagar. With her appointment, Uttar Pradesh is likely to experience a fresh round of transformation in terms of rates of organized crime and the safety of women. Her appointment date came on November 28, when the government published a list of 16 IPS officers who will be transferred and posted around the state, including to the three newly created Commissionerates of Varanasi and Prayagraj.

Excellent Career Profile

According to the 2020 policy structure, the state of Uttar Pradesh now has seven police commissioners. The state government announced the appointment of 3 new police commissioners on November 28. One of them was the first woman to serve as police commissioner in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Alok Singh, an IPS officer from the 1995 batch who had previously held the position, was replaced by Singh. Alok Singh is now serving as the (ADGP) assistant director general of police in the headquarters of Lucknow. As one of the contenders with an exceptional list of professional accomplishments, Singh deservedly earned the position. She established her expertise in the topic and won awards right away in the academic setting. She also finished first among female candidates for the IPS (33rd total) in the (UPSC) Union Public Service Commission exams. She was recognised as the top probationer at the Hyderabad-based Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Regional Police Academy.
She garnered recognition and awards throughout a more than two-decade career at different stages, including a silver baton from PM Narendra Modi and then a prized 9 micrometers pistol from Union Home Ministry. She also has police medals, silver and gold UP DGP medals, and a medal from UP Chief Minister for her outstanding service.
Singh is wed to Rajeshwar Singh, former leader of the Enforcement Directorate of the Indian Police Service (IPS) who retired voluntarily to become a legislator for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Participation In Notorious Cases

In 2004 the 48-year-old senior police superintendent joined the force. She had a degree in mechanical engineering with a B.Tech, but she entered the civil service to help and defend the public. Due to her line of work, she quickly ascended the ranks and was elevated to the positions of sub-inspector general (IG) as well as inspector general (IG) in 2013 & 2018, respectively. Before being transferred to IG Range Lucknow, Singh had held the positions of IG/DIG of (the STF) Special Task Force at Gautam Buddh Nagar & IG of the police and military training center in Meerut. Her coworkers refer to her as a “firebrand officer” who is dedicated to stopping crimes against women.
