Basic Cyber Safety Tips For Girls

Recently we came across one horrible cybercrime in Chandigarh University where one girl made MMS of girls who are her fellow hostel mates while bathing. So as responsible cyber security organisation we are providing some useful information towards cyber crime awareness and reporting so anyone can identify and report such incidents.

Precautions

If you are living in hostel or PG please make sure your changing rooms/bathrooms have no loopholes so that anyone can not record videos through the windows or gapes in door or walls
Keep in check with your fellow roommates and hostel housekeeping staff for any suspicious activity check your surroundings properly for any kind of hidden cameras or devices.

Reporting Cybercrime

There are multiple ways to report cyber crime.
1- File online complaint on national cyber crime portal
cybercrime.gov.in
2- Go to nearest police station or cyber cell and file complaint under cyber crime
3- Call on national cybercrime helpline number “1930” for financial fraud.

Cyber Law(Indian Penal Code Information Technology Act 2000)

There are specific amendments in IPC named IT ACT 2000-2008 for cyber crimes
few of them will be useful while filing complaint or case are given below
-Section 66E – Punishment for violation of privacy
-Section 67 – Punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form
-Section 67A – Punishment for publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act, etc., in electronic form

-Section 354D – Stalking
-Section 463, 465 and 471 – Forgery
Section 509 – Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman
