Rajpath to be renamed as Kartavya path : India is draining out the colonial Mindset

The symbolic Central Vista lawns and Rajpath heading straight from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate are all primed to be retitled as Kartavya Path(Path of Duty) by the Union Government and the New Delhi Municipal Council(NDMC) organised to meet on Wednesday to talk over the introduced change. “The entire road and area from the Netaji statue at India Gate to the Rashtrapati Bhavan will be known as Kartavyapath,” PTI quoted.

An NDMC Source claimed that the overture is being deliberated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

NDMC Vice Chairperson and BJP leader committed “We are convening a special meeting on September 7 to discuss and rename the Central Vista and Rajpath stretch as Kartavya Path. The proposal is yet to come but the meeting has been called. All members and officials concerned will participate in the meeting”.

On Independence Day, PM Modi in his speech highlighted the abolition of symbols that contemplate the colonial mindset. On September 8, in the evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and unveil the whole stretch. And from September 9, the full 2 km long stretch will be opened to the public.

In the light of the exact translation of the word King’s Way, after independence it was changed to Rajpath. In the Central vista Redevelopment project, the road has been referred to as ‘Central Vista Avenue’. During British Rule Rajpath was known as Kingsway in honour of the Emperor of India George V, who had visited Delhi in 1911, when the British Raj formally recognized Delhi as the capital of British India.
