RSA CTFL Stakeholder Initiative Forum condemns looting, arson

The Clothing, Textile, Footwear & Leather (CTFL) Stakeholder Initiative Forum in South Africa recently condemned the destruction and looting in food and other manufacturing facilities, supermarkets, grocery stores and distribution infrastructure in Kwa-Zulu Natal and parts of Gauteng. These pose a worrying threat to the future sustainability of jobs, it said.

“Such conduct has absolutely no place in a constitutional democracy. These unacceptable actions have caused serious harm to our industry,” it said in a press release.

The forum consists of all 17 employer associations and two trade unions in the clothing, textile, footwear and leather industry.

The forum demanded immediate and urgent support from the government for employees and employers in the affected areas. In particular, it requested for relief support wherever food shortages are being witnessed.
